Keeping Children Safe
Catawba County Social Services has developed some helpful guidelines in A Guide for Keeping Children Safe. It provides details about the level of supervision that children typically need at different ages. It is also important to make sure that the child care or school-age programs you are considering are operating legally. The Children’s Resource Center can provide more information about accessing appropriate care! To be considered legal care, any program that is operating for over 4 hours/day must be licensed with the Division of Child Development & Early Education (DCDEE) or be collaborating with a local school system.

What about child care that is provided in someone’s home?
If your provider is caring for more than 2 children who aren’t related and they provide care for more than 4 hours a day, they probably should be licensed. We do have licensed Family Child Care Homes in our county. Call the Children’s Resource Center at 828-695-6565 to learn more!
